Creating a better environment for staff and patients
Thanks to a generous donation from Barts Charity, the Gillian Hanson Diabetes Centre undertook a much needed revitalisation to improve its environment for both staff and patients.
The centre, located in junction 4 -off the main hospital corridor-, needed a complete renovation of its facilities to make sure our staff have a more comfortable and appropriate space for their day-to-day activities and to make sure they provide the best possible care for our patients.
The money from Barts Charity helped us to complete a full renovation of the centre including: the installation of additional consultation rooms, improved facilities to patients and staff, a new staff room (we didn’t have one before), larger waiting area for patients with better access, upgraded office space for staff and a new educational suite for staff and patient education. The improved facilities will support the team with delivering quality patient and staff care along with education and training sessions for clinicians.
The donation also helped to clean carpeted areas and surfaces to make sure they are in line with infection prevention control. We also created a larger podiatry clinical room with better access for patients and installed new aircon/air ventilation/heating system throughout the centre.
The works took place over 12 weeks and the centre re-opened in May.
About the centre
The Gillian Hanson Centre is a clinical outpatient unit that provides diabetes and endocrine services and care, including podiatry clinics.
The centre provides care to patients who have been referred for outpatient care under diabetes and endocrine services (for example referrals from GP or consultants). Also, some inpatient based case is provided within the podiatry clinical area.
As well as outpatients, the nursing and clinical team at the centre provides diabetes and endocrine care to inpatients at Whipps Cross.
