Join us for our next parkrun!

Kick off the new year with a fresh challenge by joining Bart Health’s parkrun on 18 January at 9am at Mile End park, Valentines park or Victoria Dock.

Since 2022 when the East London Cardiovascular Disease Prevention (ELoPe-CVD) Group first joined forces with parkrun staff, patients, family members and volunteers have been taking part in these friendly, welcoming local events.

The aim is to encourage the Barts Health community to do more physical activity to support and manage their cardiovascular health.

Dr Mohammed Khanji, consultant cardiologist, said: “Increasing physical activity improves health and lowers the incidence of long-term conditions including cardiovascular disease, cancer, and mental health disorders.

“parkrun aligns with a many of the priorities set out by the ELoPe-CVD and our wider organisation by improving wellbeing, reducing loneliness, reducing health inequalities and disease prevention.”

No running experience is necessary. People can walk, jog or run as much or as little of the course as they want. If you would like to volunteer then please speak to the parkrun director on the event day and they will help to find you a role.

Jeff, a cardiac patient under the care of Whipps Cross and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals, took part at the Mile end parkrun.

He said: “I was diagnosed with a faulty valve, which will never get better. It will either stay the same or get progressively worse. This is nearly my 550th Parkrun. I'm getting slower and slower, in some ways it's demoralising, but in other ways, at least I'm still doing it.

“parkrun brings a lot of mental as well as physical benefits, I have also made some wonderful friends along the way.”

Chrissie Wellington OBE, parkrun UK head of Health and Wellbeing added: “We are so proud of our ongoing collaboration with Barts health, and see it as a valuable way of enabling people of every ability to experience the magic of these free, social, community based events. We hope that as many people as possible come along to all park run events throughout 2025, as part of their journey to a more active, healthy lifestyle”

Registering before the event is advised and all you need to bring is yourself and the barcode you receive when you register. You can still come along if you are unable to register.

Don’t miss this great opportunity to gain fitness, build confidence and meet new people. You’re also welcome to spectate!
