We were delighted to welcome actor Idris Elba and musician Stormzy to spread festive cheer at Whipps Cross and Newham hospitals on Thursday 14 December.

Idris, who hails from Newham, and Stormzy spent time talking to children and presented them with gifts to make their experience of being in hospital at Christmas that much easier.

Idris said “I always wanted to give back in this way, to Children’s Hospitals.  With a 15 year old daughter and 3 year old son myself, I can only imagine the anguish and maybe even fear these children and their parents are experiencing. This visit was just a moment for me to hopefully bring a smile to the children who are unwell, in hospital and away from the comfort of their homes during the Christmas period.”

At Newham, father of Derek Duncan, 20 months, said: “What a surprise! Great to see two mega stars taking time out to dress up as Santa and bringing gifts for our son – a treasured memory. Thank you Newham Hospital.”

Robert, father of three-year-old Matilda who is receiving treatment for cancer at Whipps Cross said: “Today’s visit lifted our spirits and the gift she received was great -she hasn’t stopped playing with it. It has been great to have Idris and Stormzy here, not only for the children but adults too! It  isn’t often you see two superstars in one day. We have been at Whipps Cross for six days now and you can begin to feel a bit institutionalised. Tilly loves Santa, her reaction was priceless and it really made us smile. We are in the Christmas spirit!”
