Catch up on our greatest moments

Adam Sharples

Last week I had the pleasure of showcasing our progress and highlights over the past year at the Barts Health annual general meeting. Here's a roundup of what we covered, and the slides in case you missed it.

In 2023 6,000 people came through the doors of a Barts Health hospital each day, and we saw a total of over 560,000 patients in A&E – that’s more than any other trust in England. Against this challenging backdrop, we achieved incredible successes as a group of hospitals.

We transformed patient care through ambitious initiatives like the cancer assessment unit at St Bartholomew's and the brand-new ITU at Newham hospital. We introduced ways for patients to be seen faster through same day emergency care, and gave them access to test results at their fingertips thanks to Patients Know Best.

Our patients are our top priority, yet our people are our greatest asset. We've seen improvements in the latest national survey with more staff saying they would recommend our services. To support staff wellbeing, our new Barts Hearts recognition platform has seen over 50,000 messages of gratitude shared amongst colleagues so far.

Across the north east London patch, we worked in collaboration with partners to bring us closer towards building healthier communities. We’re progressing our Whitechapel life sciences cluster and our Academic Centre for Healthy Ageing at Whipps Cross Hospital will help older people live longer, healthier lives.

These incredible moments are just a snapshot of our achievements, and it is a testament to you - the talented and dedicated staff who work in our hospitals and support services.

On behalf of the Board, my heartfelt thanks go to all our staff and supporters for their continuing commitment to patient care.
