Building a greener future with Newham’s new cycle hub

Newham Hospital’s new cycle hub is now open for use, with over 50 new spaces for staff to securely keep their bikes, and extra spaces for cargo bikes. The hub was made possible thanks to Newham Hospital’s ongoing partnership with Transport for London and Newham Council, and our commitment to encouraging more sustainable ways to travel.

In the West Wing cycle hub, we have also installed a new tool station and bike pump for repairs that is free for everyone, including staff, patients and visitors to use.

The hub was officially opened this week by Dr Will Norman, London's Walking and Cycling Commissioner who said:

It’s so important that more people are people are cycling and walking for all the health benefits that it brings. That’s why it’s brilliant that the Council, TFL and the hospital have worked together to bring this new facility in.  Improving Londoners’ health, helping to tackle chronic disease and helping choose more active ways to get to work is key for the Mayor (of London), and that’s why we’ve invested in this programme.

Sam Wood, Sustainability and Net Zero manager for Barts Health NHS Trust said:

This is a much-needed investment into our cycling facilities at Newham, given the popularity of the existing cycle hub. We’re delighted to open this new hub and ensure that more staff can keep their bikes secure. This will help with our travel commitments made in the Barts Health Green Plan and help build a more healthy and sustainable community.
