Whipps Cross wins national award for providing Gold Standard end of life care
Whipps Cross Hospital has been awarded three national Gold Standards Framework (GSF) Quality Hallmark Awards in recognition of the way we care for people at the end of their life.
Colleagues from Sage, Syringa and the Margaret centre collected their well-deserved awards at the GSF annual conference and awards ceremony on Friday 29th September at The Pendulum Hotel in Manchester - a celebration of the UK's best end of life care providers.
Shanthini Avorgbedor, [End of life care facilitator] and one of the award recipients said: “End of life care will affect most of us at different times in life and it’s very important to us to provide compassionate care to patients and their loved ones at such a sensitive time and help support patients to die as comfortable as possible and with dignity.”
“We are very proud to receive the gold accreditation for two of our wards, Syringa and Sage and a platinum accreditation for the Margaret centre as this is the second time it has been awarded this recognition and continued to operate within GSF.” Margaret Centre also received a prestigious “Ward of the Year” award in recognition of exemplary, holistic end of life care.
“GSF has created a culture shift in the way we care for our patients, with greater involvement of the patient and family in decision making. It’s also good to see that the number of complaints we have received has also decreased in these areas over the last three years which is a testament to the marked improvements we have made in line with the GSF framework and holding ourselves accountable on an ongoing basis.”

GSF provides end of life care training and accreditation for frontline staff in health and social care, to enable a ‘gold standard’ of care for people nearing end of life.
