Tris named new nursing director
Tris Kerr has been appointed director of nursing for The Royal London and Mile End hospitals following a competitive recruitment process.
He will take over from Lucie Butler who announced her retirement earlier this year .
Tris is an experienced leader in both nursing and operations and is already a part of the Barts Health Group. He has held numerous roles at Whipps Cross Hospital including associate director of nursing and then divisional director for the medicine division, where he also managed the nursing informatics portfolio. He then held a joint director of nursing role for 6 months, before entering his most recent position of director of operations.
Speaking about his appointment, Tris said:
“I am delighted to be joining The Royal London and Mile End hospital team as director of nursing. As a Tower Hamlets resident myself, it will be a privilege to serve the borough I call home.
“One of my first priorities will be to recognise and develop opportunities to recruit and retain our diverse workforce, and to build a culture where staff care for each other, as much as they do their patients.
“I look forward to working, speaking and listening to you all so we can make The Royal London and Mile End hospitals an outstanding place to work and be treated."
Neil Ashman, chief executive of The Royal London and Mile End Hospital added:
“We’re proud to welcome Tris, an exceptional nurse and leader, to our hospital team.
“I was particularly impressed with the feedback received from our panel of staff networks, wellbeing, union reps and patient experience colleagues, who all strongly recommended Tris as our new director of nursing. Please join me in congratulating him.”
As Tris prepares for his departure from Whipps Cross, chief executive of the hospital, Amanjit Jhund said:
“On behalf of Whipps Cross I want to wish Tris every success, he is going to be sorely missed but I know that he is extremely passionate about his new role, and while we are all very disappointed to be losing him from Whipps we are delighted that he is staying within the Barts family.
I am confident that he will continue to contribute his invaluable experience and expertise not only within the nursing division at RLH but the wider organisation and I look forward to working with him in his new role. Good luck Tris, we will miss you!”
The director of nursing is a member of the hospital’s executive board and the role includes oversight of our governance arrangements.
An exact start date will be announced in due course.
