Celebrating our long service staff at Whipps Cross
(Above: Chris Moore, Anthony Bewley and Bibi Rajulabi celebrate 25 years of work at Whipps Cross)
Every year we recognise the dedication, commitment and continuous service of colleagues at Whipps Cross who have completed 15, 25, 30 and 40 years of service at Barts Health.
Staff celebrating 25, 30, and 40 years of service were sent a congratulations card in the post from Alwen Williams, group chief executive and Jacqui Smith, chair, in recognition of their achievement, dedication, and commitment to Barts Health, patients, and staff. They also received a long service award.
Anthony Bewley, consultant dermatologist, is celebrating 25 years of work with the us. He said:
"It has been such a privilege to have been providing dermatological care for the patients of Waltham Forest, Redbridge and other areas over the previous 25years. I have learned a lot from my patients and from my (quite brilliant) colleagues (including the trainees and especially the nurses). Being part of a team which works effectively and respectfully together. I believe, has made the last 25 years go by in a flash; not without challenges, but with the knowledge that together we can meet those challenges."
"Right from the start, I became aware that there was something special about the working environment at Whipps Cross"
Chris Moore, lead radiographer from interventional radiology, has completed 25 years of service for us and we spoke to him about reaching this milestone.
How did you start working for us?
"I qualified as a radiographer in 1990, and after working in a hospital in Surrey for four years, I decided to broaden my horizons with some agency work at various hospitals in London. I came to Whipps Cross as a 1 week locum in 1995. However, one week turned into several days, then months, until, at exactly the right moment, the head of the department advised me of a full-time vacancy, and invited me to apply.
By this time I had grown to know and love the department and the hospital, and it was the right time for me to settle down in this part of London.
Since then, I have married, and brought a family into the area, and have seen many developments at the hospital, which I am proud to have been a part of, and in the local community."
What's kept you working in the Barts Health family for such a long time?
"Right from the start, I became aware that there was something special about the working environment at Whipps Cross...a very professional, but very friendly combination of skills and expertise centred on the patient's welfare.
When we have students and trainees with us like medical students, junior doctors, radiology SpR's, student radiographers and student nurses, they always seem to feel drawn to our friendly and productive learning environment.
During my time at Whipps Cross I have seen a revolution in the working practice of radiology and radiography, for example he change to digital imaging and computer archiving systems. I have also seen the development and implementation of the partnership with Barts and the London Hospitals, and the increased stature of Whipps Cross within the larger Barts Health structure.
As I approach retirement I wish Whipps Cross and Barts Health well with the Whipps Cross redevelopment, and I know that the new hospital will continue to serve the local community in the years to come!"
