Newham's big Christmas switch on

Newham Hospital was delighted to welcome local school children from St Edwards and St Antony's Catholic Primary School to switch on our Christmas tree and perform some festive carols.

It was the first time ever that the schools had performed together in the hospital's main entrance, with staff, patients and visitors joining in on the singing.

Nuala Cashell, senior executive leader of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy Trust, said:

The students really wanted to give something back to the community. We have really prepared for this and it came about from the students just wanting to say thank you to nurses, doctors and anybody that has given something to the community this year."

Simon Ashton, Newham hospital's chief executive, said:

It was fantastic to welcome our local schools. They sang beautifully and brought some much-needed festive cheer to all our staff, patients and visitors.

Throughout the week, we have also been treated to performances from St Joachim's and St Catholic Primary School.
