Let’s get planting!

We need your help to plant Newham Hospital's first ever 'pocket forest' - to transform our grounds into a biodiverse green space with over 1,700 saplings for future generations.

Whether you're a staff member, patient, or part of our wider community, we welcome you to be part of this exciting initiative. No experience is needed, and all equipment will be provided.

Planting a pocket forest isn’t just about making our hospital grounds greener—it’s about creating a lasting legacy. These young trees will help clean the air, reduce noise pollution, and support local wildlife, making our hospital a healthier, more welcoming place for everyone.

Your role in this project doesn’t have to end after planting day. We encourage volunteers to check in on the saplings as they grow, name them, water them or simply appreciate their progress. Over time, this mini forest will become a self-sustaining, thriving habitat.

Tom Ellis, Director of Strategy at Newham Hospital said:

We are delighted to be working with SuGi on this project. The pocket forest will boost biodiversity, improve air quality, and provide a calming environment for our patients, staff, and visitors. Community involvement is at the heart of this project, and we encourage everyone to join us for the planting day on 26th March and be part of something that will benefit Newham for generations to come.

It’s also a great way to come together and contribute to a greener, healthier Newham so let’s get planting!
