Making new strides in Group Clinical Services
My name is Michael Adebowale and I am an MRI Research Radiographer. I’ve been in this role since Dec 2017 and I started working for Barts Health as a Senior Rotational Radiographer in 2010. My experiences have equipped me to develop a sound clinical reasoning and practice within diagnostic imaging.
Within MRI research, I'm responsible for setting up scan protocols in MRI, managing trial data and making sure that the trial’s protocol/MRI imaging guidelines and GCP standards are followed and maintained. I’ve always loved research growing up because of the chance it presents to investigate materials to establish facts and reach new conclusions. I decided to join the multi-disciplinary research team within Group Clinical Services (GCS) because research was and still is a top agenda for the trust and every effort was being made to establish us an excellent research institute.
Since joining the GCS research team, we have made new strides and improved our research capacity and demand. The excellent research management and governance team have also directly contributed to this achievement.
My experiences since joining the team have been invigorating and thrilling; We have had an almost 40 percent increase in our research activities. In MRI we now deliver more trials in various sites within the trust than ever before. We now work in close contact with most clinical specialties within the trust such as neurology, haematology and urology.
We have created a substantial working relationship where we can come together to improve standards and meet requirements for various trials and stakeholders to facilitate a better outcome so that clinical trials can be easily set up and undertaken. In addition, we have even expanded to take on specialised MRI trials that traditionally would have not been done here. This not only excites me as a research radiographer but also improves the skills and abilities of other clinical MRI radiographers involved in undertaking such projects.
The most satisfying thing for me is that GCS research is led under enthusiastic and well-experienced management and the whole team itself are very hard working. We have a common synergy to make progress together. This ties in well with the high ambitions perceived by both the trust and GCS research staff. This makes us very progressive and the job and experiences very thrilling even when working with such high objectives.
