Our partnership with Barts Health allows us to push boundaries

It’s a privilege to have been asked to guest edit this week’s newsletter. For 30 years The Royal London Hospital has been the place London’s Air Ambulance Charity calls home. Our partnership with Barts Health NHS Trust has allowed us to push the boundaries of pre-hospital care, allowing us to be there for over 40,000 critically injured patients when their lives were on the line.

In 1989 a helicopter emergency medical service for London was just a dream of some pioneering medics from The Royal London Hospital – including the late Richard Earlam and Alastair Wilson. Thanks to their determination and vision, London’s Air Ambulance was born. Despite early struggles and some difficult moments along the way, we have gone on to redefine emergency medicine and are now renowned across the world for our ground-breaking treatments and ways of working. It is very special to be able to mark 30 years saving lives and pay tribute to all those who helped us get to where we are today.

Whilst I’m CEO of the charity, more important to me is that I am a supporter of the charity first. The charity inspires deep emotion amongst the public and from my many conversations with staff at Barts Health I know you feel the same. Thank you for your support. We are proud to work with you to deliver our world class rapid response care. Thank you for helping us to be there for our patients, and sharing The Royal London with us.
