Our final heroes for 2023

Newham's Heroes of the Month for November and December 2023

We rounded out our 2023 Hero of the Month awards with two very deserving winners, who live our trust values every day.

Our November hero: Mariama Dibba-demba, gynaecology clinical nurse specialist

Nominated by a colleague, Mariama won this award because she ‘goes above and beyond’ for patients, often covering the cost of their bus fare if they can’t afford it! Her full nomination reads:

“Mariama really does go above and beyond for all the patients she cares for. She even pays for their bus fare or medication if they cannot afford it.  She takes every opportunity to check up on them pre, during and post treatment. She is truly an amazing individual and an indispensable member of Bartshealth.”

November Hero of the Month for Newham Hospital Mariama

Our December hero: Silvia Maldonado, catering assistant

Silvia was nominated by a member of the public for her ‘kindness, good manners and impeccable service’, and the fact that she regularly goes out of the way to help customers. Her nomination says:

“I often go to Elior restaurant, most of time for coffee, but also for my lunch. In the last couple of months, it has come into my attention the kindness, good manners and impeccable service of a lady named Silvia. In numerous time I had discretely observed her and the way she treats the costumers, and I myself can testify to kind acts from her, like helping some elderly couple.

“She always very sweet and kind I also did some research regarding this lady and seems that she is the favourite of other people in others department too. I many doctors, nurses, etc. being nominated. Well, despite of not wearing blue uniform, I think are many great peoples out there who deserves to be nominated, and this lady is one of them.”
