Working at Mile End Hospital
Mile End Hospital initially opened as a workhouse in the mid 19th century, and has had many roles providing medical care in Tower Hamlets, including as an infirmary, nursing home, military hospital, midwifery training school and council hospital, until it eventually established itself as an NHS hospital in 1948.
These days, Mile End is a community hospital near to Bethnal Green, Mile End and Stepney Green underground stations, providing a host of outpatient and community based services, including diabetes, sexual health, rheumatology, radiology, MSK physiotherapy and a TB clinic. Our children’s services from Mile End include occupational therapy, physiotherapy, speech and language therapy and community nursing.
Despite being a busy hospital, the green space in the grounds feel peaceful and there is a real family feel amongst staff and patients. The wide range of hospital and community health services that run from Mile End mean it is a varied and interesting place to work, and great if you want to find out more about community healthcare, offering a unique chance for nurses and therapists to really get to know the community on its own turf.
Our Education Academy is based at Mile End, offering education and training support for both clinical and non-clinical staff, both to Barts Health staff, and is highly regarded in several key areas. We have staff from all over the country coming to train with our emergency care professions as well as running our in-house sponsored training which sees staff develop skills and qualifications from a range of basic levels to operation at the highest levels of professional function.
