Improvements to sexual health and HIV services in east London

We’re making sexual health services better for people in east London.

At the end of last year, we announced a number of improvements to make sure local people would be able to access:

  • an integrated service; meaning contraception choices are provided in the same place as the testing and treatment of STIs
  • greater choice for their contraception needs, including an improved offer of long-acting reversible contraception (LARC)
  • an appointment within 48 hours of contacting the service

As part of this, we are opening a brand new centre of excellence at the Sir Ludwig Guttmann Health and Wellbeing Centre in Stratford. This centre will be supported by local clinics available across Tower Hamlets, Newham and Waltham Forest, and complement the established centre of excellence in Whitechapel.

The new service offers more hours of clinic time (including evening opening hours) across North East London, in easily accessible areas with the greatest footfall. There is an increased offering of local clinics across the three boroughs; many of these in modern, fresh estates. These changes, announced last year, were designed based on feedback received during an extensive public consultation.

We are making many of these changes in early May and from Tuesday 8 May the new services and clinic times will be fully operational. Please make sure you know where to go by keeping your eye on our sexual health pages for clinic opening times.

What does this mean for HIV services?

From Tuesday 8 May 2018, HIV services currently provided at Whipps Cross Hospital will be moving to the Sir Ludwig Guttmann Health and Wellbeing Centre in Stratford. Find out more about changes to HIV services

This is no improvement. 2 hours and still waiting. Why oh why did you close kenton and lucas wing. Terrible service, no wait, no service at all. Why book for 11.30 am if you know you can't even make the government charter of 45 minutes waiting time. I have patients also and I cannot in good faith recommend this service.at least be honest with patients. Improvements to sexual health screening you are delusional.
