Working at Newham University Hospital

Newham University Hospital is a busy hospital in the heart of east London serving a diverse community with a wide range of health needs.

The hospital offers a full range of acute services including an Emergency Department seeing over 400 patients per day. Newham has one of the largest maternity units in the UK with around 7,000 births and is currently undertaking a £9m redevelopment of its Paediatric Unit which will open in Summer 2016.

Newham also hosts the state-of-the-art Barts Health Orthopaedic Centre providing enhanced recovery and reduced length of stay; those improved outcomes provide an ideal opportunity for staff to develop themselves professionally.

At Newham we are committed to delivering safe and compassionate care to all of our patients and improving our staff development to ensure we can take this to the next level.

Why work for us?

Newham University Hospital serves one of Britain’s most diverse, fastest growing and youngest populations. Many local people have complex medical and social needs and some find the way that the NHS traditionally delivers services difficult to access.

We are focused on providing excellent care, specialising in meeting the particular needs of our community and delivering the best treatment and support as close to patients’ homes as possible in partnership with community and specialist providers.

The London Borough of Newham is one of the most multicultural parts of modern London and is one of the most connected boroughs in London, with access to great shopping with excellent travel links to London’s West End, Lakeside and Westfield London (which is the biggest shopping centre in London) and Bluewater which is the second biggest shopping centre in the UK.

What our staff say

Mark O’Halloran, ward manager
"What I love about my job is that I can make a difference for staff and patients.  Newham has such a supportive and family atmosphere, people often join and stay for long periods of time having the opportunity to work in a range of areas and take advantage of the development on offer.  I am now continuing my goal and over the coming year will be developing my team further to enhance the quality of patient care that my team deliver so it is the best it can be."
