Community Works seeks to increase the employability of local people through partnership work, training, coaching and placements so they can secure Band 1-3 positions at Barts Health and other NHS agencies.
The Community Works offer is a systematic response to the workforce needs of Barts Health whilst meeting the needs of deprived communities in East London. It recognises that employment and improved skills are linked to improved health outcomes
Apprenticeship and entry level jobs in the Trust are targeted for local recruitment and if you live in an area close to one of our hospital sites (for example in Newham, Tower Hamlets or Waltham Forest) we can help you get a job with us in administrative and clinical support roles such as healthcare assistants, receptionists and support roles.
Entry Level Jobs
To qualify for clinical support jobs local candidates will need to hold an NVQ level 2 or above or two or more years’ experience in the health and social care sector. For admin and clerical jobs local candidates will need to have good GCSEs, good IT skills and a minimum of six months admin experience. All suitable candidates are then invited to sit a test in English and Maths at level 2 before sitting in a talent pool where they will have access to job opportunities.
If the opportunity is an apprenticeship local candidates will be tested in English and Maths level 1 or level 2 depending on the specific requirements of the apprenticeship positions.
Find out more about becoming a Barts Health apprentice
In these short videos we hear from some of our apprentices about the qualities required to become an apprentice, and how they have benefited from joining Barts Health.
Both videos preview our apprenticeship ambassador, Syed Ahmed who is a BBC Apprentice runner up 2006 and the Founder and Managing Director of SAVORTEX.
