Data from Barts Health NHS Trust shows significant improvements in specialist care for patients with heart disease since the creation of the Barts Heart Centre (BHC) at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in London.

New role of environment in multiple sclerosis revealed

Environmental factors may be playing a much greater role in the onset of multiple sclerosis (MS) than previously realised, according to early research led by Queen Mary University of London and Barts Health NHS Trust. The theory is based on new findings showing that Black people and South Asians in east London have a higher prevalence of MS compared to those groups in their ancestral countries, indicating a strong environmental influence on the disease that could be driving higher MS rates in London.

John Boyega grants 'Finn-tastic' wish to children

John Boyega granted a very special wish for five-year-old Daniel Bell, from Ormskirk who is currently living with a brain tumour, to meet 'Finn' from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with Rays of Sunshine Children's Charity. The selfless boy chose to use his wish to brighten the lives of other seriously ill children when he asked to deliver toys with Finn to young patients being treated at The Royal London Hospital, run by the Barts Health NHS Trust. The BAFTA award winning actor jumped at the opportunity of making his dream become a reality.

MPs tour new theatres and dementia ward at Whipps

Local MPs The Rt. Hon Iain Duncan Smith and John Cryer have been given first glimpse of improvements underway at Whipps Cross Hospital. At a visit on Friday 26 February 2016, the VIP guests explored two brand new theatres built over the winter that are due to open in a few months. They also toured a ward that has been recently renovated specifically with the safety of people who have dementia in mind.
