Diabetes Skype clinic increases young people’s attendance

A pilot scheme in Newham helping young people keep on top of their diabetes care has rolled out Skype appointments to all patients as part of a successful four year trial.Since launch in 2011 the Diabetes Appointments via Webcam in Newham (DAWN) scheme, web-based follow up is used routinely for young people aged 16-25 years, and 480 webcam appointments have been carried out, reducing ‘do not attends’ (DNA’s) from 30-50 per cent to 16 per cent.

Antibiotics scheme reduces admissions and length of stay

An innovative scheme at The Royal London Hospital to enable some patients with difficult to treat infections to have intravenous (injected) antibiotic treatment at home or as an outpatient has prevented admission or reduced the length of hospital stay for 450 people and freed up 1,200 hospital bed days.

Junior doctors' industrial action 2016

Junior doctors who are members of the British Medical Association (BMA) are taking national industrial action for 24 hours from 8am on Tuesday 12 January 2016 until 8am on Wednesday, 13 January. They will provide only urgent and emergency care, so services at Barts Health hospitals will be similar to a Christmas Day. Junior doctors who are rostered to be on emergency duty or on call will be working as normal.
