Led by a dedicated Dementia Friendly Environment team, recent changes include ward refurbishments, improved signage and social events. Creating artwork and social and reminiscence spaces is next on the agenda.

Photographs are invited which fit within any of three categories; Object, Landscape and Wildlife.

If you think your image will capture the attention and put a smile on the faces of patients, relatives and staff then the hospital wants to see it. Prizes are also be up for grabs for the top submissions courtesy of Barts Charity - 1st prize £100 John Lewis voucher, 2x runner up prizes £50 John Lewis voucher and the top 30 photographs will be displayed in the wards.

Lucy Cosgrove, Dementia Clinical Nurse Specialist and project lead for the Whipps Cross Dementia Friendly Environment initiative, said: “Creating inpatient environments that stimulate and engage people with dementia are incredibly important to reduce boredom and frustration, which improves their overall experience during a stay on the wards.

"So whether you have a hidden talent, maybe a favourite photo tucked away just waiting for the limelight or you simply enjoy capturing pictures as a hobby, please enter our photo competition and help bring cheer to our wards."
