West Ham players bring festive fun to Newham's children

West Ham United’s first team players took a break from their busy festive schedule to spread Christmas cheer to chidlren at Newham Hospital this week. Winston Reid, Adrian, Simone Zaza, Michail Antonio, Ashley Fletcher and Pedro Obiang visited the children’s Rainbow Ward to meet youngsters and hand over some claret and blue gifts.

Help create a better hospital environment for people with dementia

Whipps Cross Hospital is calling on local people to compete in its photography competition and help decorate its older peoples' wards to improve the experience of people with dementia. The top 30 photographs will be displayed in wards throughout the hospital, as well as at other Barts Health hospitals across east London.

Local football clubs help kick off Christmas at Whipps Cross Hospital

Christmas kicked off for children at Whipps Cross Hospital with two special visits this week from local football clubs, Tottenham Hotspur (21 Dec) and Leyton Orient (20 Dec). The children were each given gifts including mini footballs and cuddly toys, and posed for photos with the special guests who spent time speaking with them and their parents.

New ‘pain relief’ adolescent room opens at Whipps Cross Hospital

Adolescents at Whipps Cross Hospital now have a dedicated room kitted out with a PlayStation, television and activities to help improve their hospital experience. On Friday 16 December 2016 the adolescent room was officially opened by members of Barts Health NHS Trust’s Youth Empowerment Squad, a team of adolescent patients. They had called for a dedicated space at Whipps Cross Hospital where people their age could feel more at home. The Squad, supported by hospital staff, secured funding for the redecoration and were instrumental in its planning and design.

Christmas cheer comes to children at The Royal London Hospital

Children cared for at The Royal London Hospital have celebrated Christmas with family and friends at the play department's annual Christmas party. The Children's Hospital, which cares for up to 5,000 children each year, was transformed into a Christmas grotto and staff dressed as elves for the occasion which saw over 100 people attend.

Barts Health has finalised a new soft facilities deal to bring better quality services for patients, better terms and conditions for staff, and better value for money. Cleaning, catering, portering and linen services previously managed by a number of suppliers will now be provided by Serco under a single contract to improve quality and consistency.
