Guild of St Bartholomew's Hospital

Friends of St Bartholomew’s Hospital since 1911.

St Bartholomew's Hospital has its own League of Friends known as the Barts Guild. It was founded in 1911 and is a registered charity affiliated to ATTEND (formerly the National Association of Hospital and Community Friends).

The full name of the Guild is The Guild of the Royal Hospital of St Bartholomew, registered charity number 251628.

The Guild is a voluntary organisation that supports the work of the hospital. It provides equipment and comforts for the benefit of patients and staff through the income raised by the work of volunteers and runs a shop and a ward trolley service for the benefit of the whole Hospital community.

The Guild welcomes subscription members and donations to boost its funds as well as volunteers to staff its shops and trolley service.

Volunteers

The Guild welcomes volunteers to work in the following areas:

  • Shop helper: in the Guild's shop, selling goods such as confectionery, drinks, toiletries, stationery, magazines, toiletries, stamps, souvenirs and second-hand books
  • Mobile trolley shops: carry drinks, confectionery, newspapers, toiletries and other items to the wards.

For more information about becoming a hospital volunteer visit our dedicated volunteer pages or telephone the volunteer co-ordinator, Sarah Yandell on 020 346 55819 or email: bartsvolunteers@bartshealth.nhs.uk

Membership

All Guild volunteers are automatically members of the Guild and many also become subscription members. If you are a volunteer you may join the Guild as a subscription member (see below). Members receive newsletters and the Guild’s Annual Report, an invitation to the Annual General Meeting held in the historic Great Hall at Barts and other social events, and reduced ticket prices for the annual concert. It’s an ideal way for retired and other former members of staff and patients to keep in touch.

The Guild's funds are raised through the above activities as well as by:

  • an annual concert raffles and fairs
  • fundraising occasions initiated by our corporate supporters
  • bring and buy stall at hospital events
